Mom.. What if Who You Admire is Your Inner Voice in Disguise

The people you admire might reveal who you're meant to be.

Welcome to a new experiment on the Your Mom Enough Podcast, where Shawna and Cara put a popular personal growth concept to the test.

Inspired by
an IG reel from Suzy Welch, they dive into a thought-provoking exercise: identifying three people they'd "trade lives with" to uncover the deeper reasons for their admiration.

This isn't about desiring someone's money or fame; it's about recognizing the core qualities, like confidence, bravery, and kindness that resonate with our own inner desires and aspirations.

Cara shares her admiration for two very different but equally inspiring figures.

Her first choice is Ellen Yeoh, a former phys-ed teacher known for her boundless energy, community impact, and ability to command respect from students and teachers alike.

Her second choice is a couple, Andy and Jane Zalcons, whose loving, adventurous marriage and genuine kindness are a relationship goal for Cara.

These choices highlight Cara's own desires for energy, community, connection, and kindness qualities she sees and is being pulled toward in herself.

Shawna's choices are equally revealing.

She would trade lives with Oprah Winfrey, not for the wealth, but for her story of overcoming expectations, taking risks, and living unapologetically into her true self.

Her second choice is J.K. Rowling, admired for her bravery in trusting a creative idea and transforming her life through imagination, even when faced with immense challenges and rejection.

Shawna connects this to the importance of allowing our full imagination to take us somewhere and finding the bravery to pursue creative inklings, a theme she sees reflected in their own podcast project.

The episode serves as a powerful reminder that admiration is more than just a fleeting feeling; it's a clue from your intuition.

Shawna and Cara encourage listeners to not only identify who they admire but to also recognize that the very qualities they see in those people are sparks that already exist within themselves.

It's about uncovering what was there all along, not starting from scratch.

They end the episode by announcing a new movement challenge, encouraging listeners to find their own form of bravery and self-care.

TLFMTR (Too Long For Mom To Read):

  • The qualities you admire in others often signal what you are being pulled to become.

  • Admiration goes beyond surface-level success like money or fame; it's about deeper traits like confidence, bravery, or kindness.

  • Finding a brave space for your creative self is a crucial part of personal growth.

  • Admiration isn't about copying; it's about uncovering the parts of yourself that need more light.

Who are three people you admire most, and what qualities do they possess that you see a spark of within yourself?

Remember, you are a great mom, and your intuition is nudging you forward to become your truest self.
