Overcoming Grief, Emotional Eating by Taking One Small, Sustainable Step Each Week - a More for Mom Summit Series

From Grief to Glowing: One Mom's 130-Pound Transformation Story

Life can sometimes lead us into a dark place. For guest Chevaunne Macpherson, that moment came after the devastating loss of her brother, which sent her down a "rabbit hole" of grief, anger, and emotional eating.

At over 300 pounds, she felt stuck, finding simple tasks like getting in and out of a truck for work to be a struggle.

As moms, it's easy to lose ourselves in the pain and the daily grind, but Chevaunne’s story is a powerful testament to the fact that change is always possible.

The turning point wasn't a grand gesture, but a single, terrifying text message: a close friend was having a heart attack.

That scare was the spark Chevaunne needed. Instead of overwhelming herself with an all-or-nothing approach, she embraced the power of small, incremental changes.

She started by walking three kilometers a day and adding greens to her diet. Each week, she would subtract one thing that wasn't serving her and add one positive habit.

This gentle method created a ripple effect. The walks turned into weightlifting and then running, where she found an incredible, supportive community.

Then mindful eating led to a 130-pound weight loss.

Most importantly, she found a healthy way to process her emotions and the daily overstimulation of motherhood, learning to "leave it on the mat" in hot yoga or on the running trail.

Chevaunne's journey is a beautiful, real-world example of how the smallest steps, taken consistently, can lead you out of the darkness and into the light.

TLFMTR (Too Long For Mom To Read):

  • The Power of Small Steps: Transformation doesn't require a massive overhaul overnight. Chevaunne’s journey began by making one small change each week, like adding greens to her diet and starting a daily walk, proving that slow progress is sustainable progress.

  • Find Your Turning Point: A friend's sudden heart attack was the catalyst for Chevaunne, reminding her of the importance of her own health for the sake of her children and family.

  • Action as an Outlet: When feelings of anger or being overstimulated arise, having a physical outlet is crucial. Chevaunne learned to "leave it on the mat" or on the running trail, preventing emotions from building up inside.

  • There is Hope: No matter how dark things seem, Chevaunne is living proof that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Believing you can get past the pain is the first step toward finding it.

If you could take just one small, gentle step towards the life you desire this week, what would it be?
